Vale Vultures began as an Under 8s rugby league side and is now entering its fourth season as an Under 11s team. That steady progression is a big part of the club’s identity, with players continuing to develop together year by year as one squad.
The team was founded by Meurig Thomas and Gareth Fowler to give their rugby group the chance to keep playing and developing through the summer. From the beginning, the aim was to create an environment where players could improve their skills, enjoy their rugby and stay connected as a team.
Vale Vultures is about more than matches and training sessions. It is about giving young players a positive place to learn the game properly, work hard for each other and enjoy being part of the squad. The team is built around a few simple principles that still shape the club today.
Fun first
Players should enjoy their rugby, build friendships and want to keep coming back each week.
Skill development
Coaching focuses on helping players learn the game properly in a way that is clear, supportive and age-appropriate.
Team spirit
Players are encouraged to grow together as a squad, support one another and take pride in being part of the team.
Confidence building
Vale Vultures aims to help players grow in confidence on and off the field in a positive, encouraging environment.
As the team continues to grow, the focus remains the same: to provide a welcoming route into rugby league, strong coaching, and a team environment where players can enjoy the game, improve steadily and represent the Vale of Glamorgan with pride.
